CHARACTER: CANON SECTION
NAME: Tenma Matsukaze
AGE: 12-13
CANON: Inazuma Eleven Go
NAME: Tenma Matsukaze
AGE: 12-13
CANON: Inazuma Eleven Go
CANON HISTORY: Wikia Link; Will clarify points
CANON PERSONALITY:
Tenma is a generally optimistic young boy, though most of it is rooted in how naive he initially is. With his catchphrase "It'll work out somehow!" and inability to stay on the ground, he is the stubborn type who will charge through most of his life's obstacles. He has plenty of energy to keep a chipper attitude throughout the day, from waking up early in the morning to go on a run, all the way to nightly chores and dog care. He is best described as a spirit, someone who can bring out his greatest potential when having fun, and stumbles when he's not.
He can get attached pretty quickly. Despite having a friendly disposition, he only really grew up with one real friend during childhood. As result, he deeply cherishes all friendships he is able to make, and takes it especially hard whenever someone leaves or seemingly betrays his trust. However, he will cling to their good qualities and fight to restore any broken relationships. Once he makes a friend, he is quick to get comfortable with them and either shower them with affection or tease them mercilessly, depending on their personalities. He is quite forgiving of others, regardless of their transgressions. He cares so much for others, he's willing to put his own safety over theirs. He is the type who would willingly become a punching bag if it meant others weren't sharing that fate.
However, there are times when he will sink into a depressed state, usually when he learns that someone has been hurt from his choices and actions. He second guesses himself and mentally shoulders all of the blame even if most of it was out of his control. He is prone to moping becoming fixated on his mistakes during this time, and needs the encouragements and opinions of others to help bring him out, even if it takes a while between the talk and his renewed resolve. Despite having confidence in his own skills, he is often uncertain and hesitant in directing and leading others. He falls more easily into a follower role. While he will fill the leadership role, he feels someone else with more experience would be much better suited for the position. Often, he will internalize and bottle up what he perceives to be negative feelings and thoughts, but they end up eating him up the more he tries to hide it.
He is straightforward and honest with himself, and to others. He is a poor liar, though he will try his best to protect secrets if someone asks him to. He tries to pursue everything with pure intent and stay true to himself. He can become fixated on a goal, which often leads to him overthinking and falling short of his best performance for as long as he's holding onto some internal baggage. However, he is quick to make up for immediate missteps and holds onto hope until the bitter end. He can be quite confrontational to others whenever they're 1. insulting soccer or his friends, or 2. not being true to themselves (while playing soccer). Again, he is quick to forgive and doesn't hold grudges.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Athletic abilities - As a soccer player, Tenma has more stamina than most normal people, and seems to exceed his teammates at times. His focus is speed, making him one of the faster runners on his team, though he is not the fastest. He also has tricky movements, able to maneuver and pivot around tight spaces.
Special Techniques - Different, tricky ways of moving around the field that give off the feeling/illusion of something magical, but is unclear whether that thing is happen (ie: flooding the field with water to sweep a player way so one can steal the ball). They are categorized based on what they do in soccer: Defense, Offense, Shoot, and Goal Keeping. Tenma can do the first three, as listed (individual moves)
Defense: (Stealing the ball)
+ Spiral Draw - become the tornado, engulf the enemy, take the ball
+ Wonder Trap - telegraph obvious moves, but feint at the last second while the opponent is focused on the telegraphed move
Offense: (bypassing opponents)
+ Zephyr Step - rush the opponent, spin out of the way, and leave them eating dust
+ Aggressive Beat - sync up movements with heartbeat and immediately shift beat up before flat lining opponent
+ Windhole Drive - creates an air tunnel to traverse through
+ Z Slash - zigzag around opponent
Shoot: (special shots)
+ Mach Wind - gotta go fast. hit ball at "mach" speed
+ God Wind - kick the ball so hard, it has to go fast.
+ Arashi Tatsumaki Hurricane (he's 13, let him be) - summons winds around the ball as it's being kicked and turn it into a massive twister.
Again, these techniques give off the feeling of such things, and do not do what they depict. There have only been a few instances of the ball breaking the goal net with such techniques, and they have been extreme cases, such as through doping or by being a literal ghost.
Incarnation - fansubbed as "Avatar", dubbed into "Fighting Spirit", or freaking left untranslated as "Keshin", Tenma has enough will power/spiritual energy and power to release the visual manifestation of itself. Basically SMT's Persona for soccer. Tenma's comes in the form of the Demonic Pegasus Arc, which was evolved from Demonic Pegasus. These Incarnations boost the user's physical prowess at the cost of expending more energy at once. Tenma is also capable of "arming" it, turning it into armor that does the same thing, but with more efficient energy usage. Arming is similar to the way My Hero Academia's Midoriya uses One For All throughout his body through his Full Cowl skill.
Incarnation energy can be sent to another to boost their power, and can be combined to form an entirely different, more powerful Incarnation, though they have to be compatible in order to merge; Tenma can fuse his Incarnation with teammates Kyousuke Tsurugi's and Takuto Shindou's Incarnations, but they all must be present in the same immediate space. Incarnations are normally attached to their owner's back, though their are some instances where they can be completely detached but restricted in the same area. Tenma's Incarnation is attached to his back, and can only go where he goes. Incarnations are not physical beings, though they can do physical damage to if one is a literal ghost.
Soul - He can straight up turn into a majestic pegasus. Unlike the special techniques of the series which are described as having the feeling of what they're showing on screen, users of the Soul ability can literally turn into animals for short bursts of time. The ability is embedded in his DNA, though there is a spiritual aspect to it similar to Incarnations that can be manipulated by an outside force. Unlike Incarnations, the Soul ability is not a major drain the user's energy, though it can only be used very briefly at a time. Like his Incarnation, his pegasus transformation was evolved from a humble horse. There are no bonus pre/post transformation. He just turns into a mythical horse.

AU NAME: Arion Tenma Sherwind
AU AGE: 13
PHYSICAL DIFFERENCES: No hair swirls because no one could figure out how they even work. Hair is still windswept, but not as wingy as it is in canon.
AU HISTORY:
Born in Okinawa to a Japanese woman and an American soldier stationed at Futenma, Arion grew up on clear beaches and soccer. Not everything about his childhood in Okinawa was sunshine and rainbows though. Due to being half Japanese with a western first name, he was picked on to the point that he had to go by his middle name Tenma for some time. The bullying lessened, but only to the point he was left out of many games on the playgrounds and the last chosen for partnered activities in the classroom. Most of his playtime was spent with his dog Sasuke, whom he rescued and adopted as a puppy, for the first couple of years of daycare and pre-school. When he was three, while playing on the beach with his dog, he met a super chill high school surfer/soccer player. The teen was kind to all kids and played with them whenever they asked, but he had a special soft spot for Arion in particular for his tenacity. He was one of the few people who didn't treat Arion differently for his heritage, and cemented himself as a big brother figure for the younger boy. He became a major influence for Arion, teaching him how to swim and how to play soccer, as well as good morals, such as letting go of petty grudges. After watching a particularly heated match his high school friend played in, Arion became fascinated with the idea that eleven people could work so well together and share each other's joys and suffering as a single unit, and thus his true love for soccer was born. After that, Arion begged his friend to teach him more tricks other than kicking the ball around. Due to his seemingly endless energy, his friend had him run along the shore, building his stamina and unintentionally training him to be a midfielder. His love for soccer would only grow to the point that he would treat it like one would treat an imaginary friend.
However, things on the social front in his age group didn't really improve. He was still left out of games. Though he was monster at running, he was a terrible shot and couldn't make it on any of the local soccer leagues. His parents tried to get him to play other sports and get into other hobbies, but nothing else ever resonated with Arion's stubborn heart the way soccer had, nor did they have the happy memories associated with them. With his high school friend soon graduating and prospects for playing on a soccer team diminishing by the second, things didn't look good for Arion's happiness. However, he was given a lucky break while speaking to a relative over video chat. They made a suggestion to move to their city, Recollé, for its numerous renown soccer leagues and friendly community. The idea quickly stuck to the young, impressionable Arion, much to his parent's distress. They deliberated the pros and cons for an emotional week. After they realized his father was always away on the military base, and his mother becoming increasingly swamped at work, his parents eventually relented. Under the promise he could keep up his grades to at least an average, they agreed that it would be best for his development to move away from an environment that may make him miserable, isolated, and possibly stunt his growth.
When he was six, his parents finalized the plans, and let him and his dog move in with that relative in Recollé for better opportunities to join a soccer team like he wanted, and a fresh start to make friends. Thanks to being bilingual at home, he was able to integrate into this new environment with few hitches. Arion joined the a children's league soccer team with fellow soccer maniacs his own age who didn't find him or his name weird, to his parent's relief. Though he was able to bond well with his team, he only had one real close friend from elementary who stuck by his side. Deep down, Arion was unconsciously afraid of losing people he got too close to, even if he wanted more friends. He would only hang out if invited, but it was enough to loosen his dependence on soccer to fill his heart. He was no longer spending much of his free time practicing and honing his dribbling skills alone; he had other soccer freaks keeping him company and slowly worming their way into his heart.
Without that weird Fifth Sector business going on in the universe he was previously a part of, he was able to make it onto the junior varsity team when he entered middle school. Upon learning that being cross-trained in different fields would help his soccer skills in the long run, Arion found himself more willing to learn different sports than he was before his move to Recollé. Though his heart is completely set on soccer, he was willing to spend less time on the field, and invest more time learning to swim again, as well as surfing in honor of his oldest friend. He struggled to balance out soccer, aquatics, and studying, but somehow made it work for his first year in middle school. Feeling better meshed with this team and rounded as a person, he aims for the varsity team in the upcoming school year.
Overall, Arion is just a normal kid with a passion for soccer, prepared to take on life's challenges and curve balls.
AU PERSONALITY:
There are a few differences between Tenma and Arion. For one, Arion's love for soccer is far tamer than Tenma's was. Arion was not as socially isolated, as he was only really picked on until he was six and Tenma was the weirdo who was bad at soccer until he entered middle school. The fact that soccer is not as big of a deal in Recollé than it was in Inazuma Eleven's Japan also helps Arion's social standing among his peers. While Tenma still personified the concept of soccer and came to think of it as a friend even as a middle schooler, Arion dropped that idea when he moved to Recollé and made actual friends. Though soccer is still Arion's life, it's just not to the degree that it was Tenma's life.
Arion, though still friendly, is subconsciously wary of letting new people in his life become too close to him due to actually picking up on the micro-aggression against him. He does not put the same blind trust and faith in people he just met and played a single round of soccer with that Tenma does. It takes a bit of proving that one is worthy of his blind trust and faith, which really isn't that hard, but he still needs the space before he gets comfortable.
Thanks to Recollé not having all of Inazuma's weirdness bogging its soccer community down, Arion does not have Tenma's sense of duty to soccer to keep it free to play. No regulated/fixed games, no time travel shenanigans, no aliens are going to take over the galaxy because a blackhole is going to destroy their planet and the only way to stay a free planet is to win a soccer tournament of all things... He may not be quite as passionate as Tenma had been, but he is able to enjoy it more.

SAMPLE
tdm | thread 2
Arion Sherwind was just a normal kid living in Recollé. He got up early to walk his dog, went to school, then soccer practice before returning home. Everything was comfortable and fine. Monsters coming out a projector and attacking? That's normal, just get to safety and go about your day when it's over. Everything's alright.
Until one day it wasn't.
As if someone flipped a switch in his brain, Arion realized that it wasn't normal for monsters to even exist in the first place. When he stepped out of his house that morning, he couldn't help but stare at all the destruction, even as a hardhat and broom were thrust into his hands. He hadn't noticed it being that bad the day before. With an uneasy feeling, he put aside his suspicions. Regardless of his new perspective, his usual route wasn't safe to run on until all the dust and debris was cleared. He wondered how far it ran. The main carnage was at the convention center, but with monsters lurking around, the damage spread almost organically. He hoped his usual soccer field wasn't wrecked, but he couldn't check until he was done sweeping.
Around 3 o'clock, the Recollé Restoration Committee finally let him go, under the promise he'd work again tomorrow. He had to rush home to get his soccer cleats and ball, and then to Hollingberry Field. To his relief, the fields were mostly untouched by virtue of its vast open space. He may have finally noticed the strangeness of Recollé, but if there was one thing Arion could find comfort and solace in, it was soccer; it was the one constant in his life he could count on. No matter where he was, no matter what was happening, no matter what rules change, the feeling of kicking the ball clear across the field was the same. He had a feeling things were only going to get rougher, so he had to take advantage of those little moments when he can be free from it all.
